The Co-op Live Arena in Manchester faced construction delays and faulty installations, leading to the cancellation of high-profile performances scheduled for its opening last month. However, the venue is now set to open next month, with Manchester band Elbow being the first to perform on the new stage. The biggest indoor arena in the UK, the venue faced various technical issues and complications that caused postponements of shows. Fans were concerned about the venue’s readiness, particularly after an air conditioning unit crashed to the ground during construction.

Following delays and cancellations, the Manchester band Elbow is set to open the Co-op Live Arena with a performance on May 14, as part of their UK tour supporting their chart-topping Audio Vertigo album. Comedian Peter Kay and US rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie were among the artists who had to postpone their shows at the venue due to incomplete construction. Concerts by artists like Olivia Rodrigo, Keane, and Take That were also affected by the venue’s teething problems and delays. The recent inspection identified an isolated manufacturing fault as the cause of the air conditioning unit issue.

Fans had expressed concern about the safety and readiness of the Co-op Live Arena, with some considering canceling their tickets for upcoming concerts. While there were worries about the building’s construction, an inspection confirmed that the venue would be ready for Elbow’s opening performance. The venue’s management assured fans that appropriate measures had been taken to address the technical issues and that the situation had been resolved. Despite the setbacks, the Co-op Live Arena is preparing to welcome fans and artists after resolving the construction-related challenges.
