Health Canada has issued a warning for a specific power adapter called the Power-7 USB Wall Charger Model US2018, sold on Amazon.ca. The warning stated that nearly 100,000 units of the affected product were sold in Canada between August 2020 and March 2024. The reason for the warning is due to the power adapters posing an unreasonable risk of electric shock. The product is described as a 2.1A/5V dual port USB cube power adapter in white with a grey stripe, and the model number is US2018. The adapters were sold in packages of either five or two and can be identified by specific Amazon Standard Identification numbers.

The Power-7 USB Wall Charger Model US2018 was manufactured by Love Chen Technology Inc./Power-7, a company based in China. Health Canada has not received any reports of injuries related to this product at the time of the warning. However, as a precautionary measure, consumers are advised to immediately stop using the affected product and dispose of it in accordance with municipal electronic waste requirements. Health Canada’s priority is to protect consumers from potentially dangerous consumer products, and issuing warnings like this is part of their commitment to ensuring consumer safety.

Amazon has since removed the Power-7 USB Wall Charger Model US2018 from sale on their platform in response to the Health Canada warning. The warning specifies that the model number can be found on the prong side of the adapter and warns consumers to identify the product using specific Amazon Standard Identification numbers provided in the warning. The purpose of the warning is to alert consumers to the potential risk of electric shock associated with using these power adapters, and Health Canada is taking measures to ensure consumer safety.

The removal of the Power-7 USB Wall Charger Model US2018 from sale on Amazon.ca is part of the efforts to prevent any further distribution of the potentially hazardous product. Health Canada’s sampling and evaluation program identified the risk of electric shock posed by the adapters, leading to the issuance of the warning. While no injuries have been reported so far, it is crucial for consumers to follow Health Canada’s advice to stop using the product immediately and dispose of it safely. By following these guidelines, consumers can protect themselves from the risk of electric shock associated with using the Power-7 USB Wall Charger Model US2018.

In conclusion, the Health Canada warning for the Power-7 USB Wall Charger Model US2018 serves as a precautionary measure to protect consumers from the potential risk of electric shock. By identifying the specific product details and Amazon Standard Identification numbers provided in the warning, consumers can determine if they have purchased the affected power adapters.
