In order to reach Sao Paulo for the competitions, Chaves will have to travel by minivan from Porto Alegre to Florianopolis, followed by a short flight to Sao Paulo. His main rivals from Argentina and the U.S. will be fine-tuning their skills as they aim to surpass him in the world rankings. Despite the mental strain caused by the floods, Chaves is committed to training and competing, as fencing has always been his outlet and passion. The challenges he faces extend beyond the mental stress to include logistical difficulties and adjustments to new gear.
With heavy rains still in the forecast, it is unlikely that Chaves will be able to return to his apartment anytime soon.
