Mehmet Turan, who started working at the municipality in 2002, worked in the parks and gardens department, carrying out tasks such as cleaning, spraying, and using various vehicles such as fire trucks and excavators. In the local elections of March 31, he was nominated as a candidate for the AK Party and defeated his rival, the former mayor, by 64 votes, becoming the mayor of the municipality where he had been a worker for 22 years.

Mehmet Turan, the mayor of Bölükyayla, stated that before the elections, the people offered him the position of mayor. He mentioned that he tried to learn almost everything and was involved in all tasks during his time as a worker in the municipality, stating that he ran from job to job and became proficient in all tasks. Turan said, “I started working as a municipal worker in 2002, and I have been working as a permanent worker for 22 years. When I first started, I tried to learn almost everything. I used many vehicles such as construction machines, vacuum trucks, fire trucks, and garbage trucks, I started doing almost everything. Then, upon the insistence of the people, I started working to become a candidate. The people of the town appreciated me because I did all the work at the municipality. With their insistence, I decided to run for mayor and became a candidate. In the elections, I defeated my rival by 64 votes. My rival had been a mayor before, and he also contributed to my success. I thank him as well.”

Turan emphasized that he would work with all his might to solve the problems in his town, saying, “From now on, I will do my best for my town day and night, within the means available. I will work first on educational matters and infrastructure-equipment procurement in our town.” He also mentioned that he is continuing to work like a laborer and has not yet adapted to the position of mayor, saying, “There was heavy rain last night here. Forgetting that I am the mayor, I immediately got up, took a pickaxe in my hand. Because the rain was falling very fast and intensely. For this reason, I quickly went to the area and cleaned the rainwater grates in front of the municipality. There were rainwater grates at the cemetery, I cleaned them as well.”

Stating that there is a limited number of workers at the municipality, Turan expressed that he cannot detach himself from his previous duties, saying, “Due to the shortage of workers and the fact that I am proficient in almost everything, in the future, I will both be the mayor and continue to work as a laborer.”Turano work like a laborer and has not yet adapted to the position of mayor, saying, “There was heavy rain last night here. Forgetting that I am the mayor, I immediately got up, took a pickaxe in my hand. Because the rain was falling very fast and intensely.
