In a recent announcement on his social media account, Minister of the Interior Ali Yerlikaya stated that a total of 15 individuals were arrested in coordinated operations carried out by the Mersin Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Gendarmerie General Command Terrorism Department in Mersin, Istanbul, Adana, Ankara, Diyarbakir, Osmaniye, and Yozgat targeting the terrorist organization ISIS.
Yerlikaya also mentioned that operations were conducted in Hatay and Kütahya provinces by the General Directorate of Security Terrorism Department in coordination with the local police departments. In Hatay, 14 suspects who were involved in providing ammunition in the name of ISIS, organizing smuggling activities, and whose names came up in testimonies and identifications were apprehended.
Additionally, in Kütahya, one individual who was found to have been active within ISIS in the past and had connections with organization members was arrested. The operations resulted in the seizure of unlicensed firearms, numerous organizational documents, and digital materials, marking a successful effort by the gendarmerie and security forces involved.
Through the “BOZDOĞAN-35” operations carried out in 7 provinces by the Gendarmerie and in 2 provinces by the Police Department targeting ISIS, a total of 30 suspects were captured. Minister Yerlikaya commended the efforts of the security forces involved in the operations and emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety, unity, and peace of the nation by not allowing any leeway to terrorists. The arrest and seizure of materials demonstrate the continued determination to combat terrorism in the country.
