Severe storms struck the central United States, including tornadoes and large hail in Oklahoma, Kansas, and other states. At least 15 tornadoes were reported, with baseball-sized hail falling in Kansas. One tornado destroyed parts of Barnsdall, Oklahoma, injuring multiple people and causing catastrophic damage. Power lines were downed, leaving towns without electricity. The National Weather Service issued tornado warnings and alerts across the region, with millions of people under watch for potential tornadoes.

The storms caused significant damage in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, with emergency responders rescuing trapped individuals and recovering downed power lines. While no major injuries were reported, the damage was extensive. More than 6 million people across multiple states were under tornado watches, with Oklahoma City facing a particularly dangerous situation. The Storm Prediction Center issued its highest risk level since 2023, predicting the potential for strong tornadoes and large hail.

Forecasters warned of the possibility of long-track tornadoes in multiple states, urging people in the affected areas to have safety plans in place. The environment across southern Kansas and Oklahoma was compared to past severe weather events, increasing the likelihood of significant tornadoes. Additionally, a flood risk was noted as heavy rain moved across the region, potentially leading to flash flooding in urban areas and low-lying areas.

The severe weather threat comes after a previous outbreak of tornadoes that resulted in multiple fatalities in Oklahoma and Iowa. The current storms are expected to continue, with more severe weather forecasted for the coming days. The Weather Prediction Center warned of excessive rainfall in parts of the Central Plains and Middle Mississippi Valley, increasing the risk of flooding. The ongoing severe weather serves as a reminder of the unpredictable and dangerous nature of tornado outbreaks.

The National Weather Service and emergency management teams across the affected states are monitoring the situation closely, providing updates and guidance to residents. With the potential for more storms in the coming days, it is essential for individuals to stay informed and prepared for severe weather conditions. The recent tornadoes and hailstorms serve as a stark reminder of the destructive power of nature and the importance of taking precautions to ensure personal safety during severe weather events.
