Isaiah Davis, a running back out of South Dakota State, was not highly ranked in the 2020 college football recruiting class, but was still drafted by the New York Jets in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Davis had always maintained a belief in himself and his abilities, despite not being highly recruited out of high school. He had a standout college career, leading FCS players in rushing yards and scoring 51 touchdowns in 46 games. His work ethic and determination have brought him to the NFL, where he is eager to prove himself.

The New York Jets drafted two running backs in the 2024 NFL Draft, including Davis, as they look to build depth behind their starting running back, Breece Hall. Davis is determined to make his mark on the team and is already gaining recognition for his physicality and work ethic. He sees himself as a player who can set an example for the rest of the team, bringing a level of intensity and determination to every aspect of the game. Despite the competition at his position, Davis is confident in his abilities and is prepared to compete for a spot on the roster.

Other rookies, such as first-round pick OT Olu Fashanu and third-round pick WR Malachi Corley, are also looking to make an impact on the team. Fashanu was limited in practice due to injury, while Corley showcased his skills during drills. Seventh-round pick safety Jaylen Key has embraced the nickname “Mr. Irrelevant” and is determined to prove his worth to the team. The Jets have a mix of rookies and veterans trying out for the team, each looking to earn a spot on the roster and contribute to the team’s success.

Several players who attended the minicamp on a tryout basis impressed the coaching staff, including Shane Hooks, a receiver from Auburn. Hooks made two highlight-reel catches during practice, showcasing his skills and potential to contribute to the team. With limited opportunities to impress, these tryout players are giving their all to secure a spot on the team. Veteran free agents, such as RB Qadree Ollison, CB Breon Borders, and S Obi Melifonwu, are also trying out for the team, hoping to make a comeback in the NFL.

The competition within the Jets’ minicamp is intense, with players of varying experience levels vying for spots on the roster. The coaching staff is looking for players who can bring a high level of skill, determination, and physicality to the team. Davis, along with his fellow rookies and tryout players, is focused on proving themselves and making a positive impression on the coaching staff. The journey from being an unheralded recruit to an NFL player is one that Davis appreciates, and he is eager to continue his development and make an impact with the Jets.
