Sportswriter Rick Reilly has accused former President Donald Trump of cheating at golf tournaments, specifically at the Trump International Golf Club in Florida. Reilly, who has golfed with Trump and written a book about his cheating ways, claims that Trump has never won a championship at a course he doesn’t own and operate. He stated that Trump uses various methods to cheat, including playing the first round alone when he buys a course and declaring himself the course champion.
According to Reilly, Trump takes advantage of the fact that golfers have to trust each other on the course due to the lack of referees. He allegedly uses a turbo-charged golf cart that goes three times faster than his opponents’, allowing him to cheat by moving his own ball to better spots and kicking his opponents’ balls into bunkers. Reilly recounted a story about Trump hitting his ball into a pond during a game in LA, only for it to miraculously end up in the fairway when his opponents arrived, with Trump claiming it must have been the tide.
Reilly described Trump’s cheating as being on par with a “mafia accountant” and called his recent championships at the Trump International Golf Club “fake as Velveeta cheese.” He mentioned that Trump has competed in tournaments like Pebble Beach and Tahoe, where there are rules, judges, and cameras, and has never finished in the top half. Reilly believes that Trump’s wins at his own clubs are only possible because anyone who disagrees with his victory can be removed from the club.
Despite Trump’s claims of winning both the club championship and senior club championship at his Florida golf club, Reilly is skeptical of these achievements and believes they are tainted by cheating. He urged viewers to be wary of Trump’s boasts about his golf victories, as they may not be as legitimate as he claims. Reilly’s accusations shed light on Trump’s character on the golf course and cast doubt on his integrity as a player. The controversy surrounding Trump’s golfing antics continues to be a subject of discussion in the sports world.
