Ezekiel Elliott Expresses Desire to Return to Cowboys as Top Priority

Ezekiel Elliott is back with the Dallas Cowboys after spending a season with the New England Patriots. Elliott expressed that he never wanted to leave Dallas and is excited to be back with the team. Despite being released by the Cowboys in 2023 as a cap-clearing move, rumors of a reunion between Elliott and the Cowboys began circulating shortly after his release from New England. Dak Prescott and Jerry Jones were both open to the idea of bringing Elliott back to Dallas. Elliott joined the Patriots for the 2023 season, where he served as an effective backup to Rhamondre Stevenson.

After the Patriots’ season ended, Elliott reemerged in Dallas, attending the team’s playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers. With Tony Pollard leaving in free agency and the Cowboys not making significant moves to address the running back position, rumors of Elliott’s return to Dallas grew ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft. Elliott emphasized that he still feels like a starter and is in good health after dealing with a PCL injury in his last season with the Cowboys. He is eager to contribute and help the team chase a championship.

Despite Elliott’s return, the Cowboys’ running backs room lacks notable names compared to Elliott’s previous tenure with the team. He will be competing for a role on the team with several other running backs, including Rico Dowdle, Royce Freeman, and undrafted rookie Nathaniel Peat. During his initial time with the Cowboys, Elliott emerged as one of the league’s top running backs, helping the team reach the playoffs multiple times. However, the team did not make it past the NFC Divisional Round during Elliott’s first tenure, and he is hopeful that his second stint with the team will result in a Super Bowl victory.

Elliott’s primary focus is on winning and helping the Cowboys reach the Super Bowl. He believes that the team has been working towards building a championship team since his arrival in 2016. Elliott and Prescott helped the Cowboys achieve success early in their careers, but they have yet to win a Super Bowl. Despite the past playoff shortcomings, Elliott remains committed to the goal of winning a championship with the Cowboys. He is determined to make the most of his second opportunity with the team and contribute to their pursuit of a title.

Elliott’s time away from Dallas with the Patriots provided him with a fresh perspective and an opportunity to reflect on his career. He has returned to the Cowboys with renewed determination and a focus on achieving his goals with the team. As he reacclimates to the Cowboys’ organization, Elliott is prepared to compete for playing time and contribute in any way he can to help the team succeed. His experience and talent could prove valuable as the Cowboys look to make a push for a championship in the upcoming season.
