Can the dual displays of a laptop deliver enhanced functionality?

Asus has introduced the latest Zenbook Duo, aiming to replicate the multi-monitor experience and workflow for those on the go. The laptop features twin screens and a built-in kickstand that allows for two different orientations, vertical and horizontal. The hinge works smoothly, allowing users to pivot the screens as needed. The inclusion of a Bluetooth keyboard that charges directly from the laptop enhances the overall user experience, providing a seamless transition between laptop and dual-screen modes.

The Zenbook Duo is designed to enhance multitasking capabilities, offering users more digital workspace while traveling. The dual-screen setup allows for increased productivity, similar to a multi-monitor setup commonly used in home or office settings. The laptop runs on Windows 11, which defaults to duplicating the screen but also allows for extending the screen for increased real estate. Asus has introduced ScreenXpert 3 to address some functionality concerns, providing gesture controls to manage apps across the dual screens more efficiently.

Despite its innovative design and functionality, the Zenbook Duo lacks in terms of connectivity, with only two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a USB-A port, and an HDMI 2.1 port. Additional docks may be required for users needing more expansion. The speakers and webcam also feel compromised due to the laptop’s physical constraints, resulting in lower volume and image quality. However, the inclusion of a headphone jack offers an alternative for audio experience.

In terms of battery life, the Zenbook Duo performs adequately under normal use, offering around seven to nine hours of endurance. However, intensive tasks and usage of the second OLED panel can significantly reduce battery life to around six to seven hours. The Intel Core Ultra 9 processor and 32 GB of RAM provide ample power for various applications, while the Intel Arc graphics card offers decent performance for gaming at 1080p resolution.

Overall, the Asus Zenbook Duo proves to be a mature option in the dual-screen laptop market. With a balance of form and function, the laptop caters to business users while still allowing for some leisure activities. Priced at $1500, the Zenbook Duo offers a competitive price point for the technology and features provided. As dual-screen laptops continue to evolve, Asus has successfully established itself as a leader in this form factor, offering a compelling option for users seeking enhanced productivity and workflow on the go.
