Chicago police have identified Xavier L. Tate Jr. as the suspect in the shooting and killing of Officer Luis Huesca. Tate, a 22-year-old man residing in Aurora, faces a first-degree murder charge for the incident that occurred in the Gage Park neighborhood on April 21. Tate remains at large, and police have issued an arrest warrant, cautioning that he should be considered armed and dangerous. Officer Huesca was shot multiple times while driving home in uniform and his vehicle was stolen during the incident.

Sources have revealed that Huesca was shot nearly 20 times with what is believed to be an automatic weapon. The officer’s service weapon and badge were not found at the scene, and it remains unclear whether the shooting was part of a carjacking. Surveillance video released by the police shows Tate walking into convenience stores and outside on a sidewalk. Tate has a previous arrest for criminal trespass to a residence in Olympia Fields. A $100,000 reward has been announced for information leading to Tate’s arrest and conviction by various organizations.

Officer Huesca had served the Chicago Police Department for six years and would have celebrated his 31st birthday shortly after the shooting incident. The manhunt for Tate has entered its seventh day, with authorities urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to come forward. The Chicago Police Department has asked individuals to contact Crime Stoppers or submit an anonymous tip online. The search for Tate continues, with law enforcement agencies and organizations working together to bring him to justice.

The incident has struck a chord with the community and law enforcement as they mourn the loss of Officer Huesca. The release of the surveillance footage and details about the suspect have intensified efforts to locate Tate and ensure that he faces consequences for his alleged actions. The tragic shooting has underscored the dangers faced by police officers in the line of duty and the importance of apprehending individuals who pose a threat to public safety. The involvement of multiple agencies and the significant reward demonstrate the seriousness of the situation and the commitment to bringing the perpetrator to justice.

As the investigation into the shooting and killing of Officer Huesca continues, the Chicago Police Department remains determined to apprehend Tate and hold him accountable for his actions. The support from the community and various organizations in offering a substantial reward reflects the collective effort to assist law enforcement in solving the case. The memories of Officer Huesca and his dedicated service to the police department serve as a reminder of the risks and sacrifices made by those who serve and protect their communities. Authorities are urging the public to provide any information that may lead to Tate’s arrest, emphasizing the importance of cooperation in ensuring justice is served.
