In the disaster of the century, 25,000 people lost their lives in Hatay, which suffered severe damage. The Güzelburç neighborhood in the Antakya district, where the largest number of losses occurred, was also where many people lost their lives. The 600 Houses Site in the area had been completely destroyed, with only the sign remaining after the debris was quickly cleared by the teams. Moved by the sight of the sign that reminded residents of the site’s past, the area where the sign was located was included in a reserve area based on the demands of the citizens. Construction work in the area had started by Emlak Konut as of March 2024.
Following tirelessly working day and night, closely monitored by Governor Masatlı, a 25-block site was rebuilt in the area. The newly constructed buildings were based on the 6-meter excavation, followed by the 22-meter pile manufacturing, resulting in residential areas with a gross area of 122 meters. The model apartment that people were eagerly waiting to see, upon finally viewing it with nostalgia, gained admiration. Governor Masatlı provided details on the process and made statements regarding the ongoing work in the buildings.
Vali Masatlı expressed plans to deliver the residential units around January, stating, “We are currently in one of the areas where we experienced the most casualties, especially in Antakya, in the aftermath of the February 6 earthquake. This place, also known as the 600 Houses, we primarily offer our condolences to the souls who passed away. After we removed the debris here following the earthquake, we requested our citizens to apply to our site here. Furthermore, through the efforts of Emlak Konut, we have started construction here. Currently, construction of 25 blocks is ongoing here. Hopefully, by January, we will have delivered our residential units. Our project here is a special project. The gross area is 122 meters, and the net area is 109 meters.”
“Pile manufacturing ranging from 18 to 22 meters is carried out after excavation”
Governor Masatlı stated that they have learned lessons from past experiences during the construction process. He explained, “When carrying out the construction, we learn from everything that has happened before. Here and in all our other constructions, we start with an excavation ranging from 5.5 to 6.5 meters. After the excavation, pile manufacturing ranging from 18 to 22 meters is carried out. Following the pile manufacturing, engineering backfill is performed approximately one meter deep. Then, we raise our structures with radial foundations. As we elevate the structure, we apply tunnel formwork system. Currently, the latest technique is being used in construction. All necessary precautions and safety measures are taken for our citizens to live peacefully and safely without any worries in the future. Hopefully, we will deliver these residential units to the eligible beneficiaries. This will enable them to live here peacefully, happily, and more securely than before. Work has been ongoing here for approximately 5 months.”
