The district governor of Belen, Mahmut Sami Yılmaz, visited the Kömürüçukuru neighborhood where construction of 228 houses has begun under the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change General Directorate of Construction Works. Yılmaz inspected the work and received information from the officials.
Yılmaz told the AA reporter that the decision to move the neighborhood approximately 3 kilometers away to another area was made after a landslide in 2019. He also mentioned that some houses in the neighborhood were damaged in the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023.
“After the earthquake, the project, planned as 228 houses with the work of AFAD, was transferred to the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change General Directorate of Construction Works. Construction work has started on the houses designed as a major project. Our 400-year-old neighborhood will be moved to a new location and a new neighborhood will be created,” Yılmaz said.
Yılmaz emphasized that the houses will set an example with their social facilities and thanked those who contributed to the project. The new neighborhood will be equipped with improved infrastructure, ensuring greater safety and comfort for the residents. The construction of the houses is progressing well and is expected to be completed within the planned timeframe.
The residents of Kömürüçukuru are looking forward to moving to their new homes, which will offer better living conditions and a more secure environment.
