The 14th Regional Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks continues its efforts to protect wildlife and nature, in collaboration with security forces. During a road check, the Çamlık Gendarmerie Command teams identified two Iranian individuals carrying a large number of giant onion plants in three sacks. Upon notification, the Nature Conservation and National Parks Gevaş Branch teams confiscated the plants, which were found to have been extracted with their bulbs, causing damage to nature.
The confiscated plants were handed over to Prof. Dr. Murat Ünal, the Director of the Flora Application and Research Center at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, who ensured that they were replanted. The two Iranian suspects who unlawfully collected the plants were fined 774,282 Turkish liras for damaging biodiversity.
