Former President Donald Trump’s allies, including Rudy Giuliani and Mark Meadows, were indicted by an Arizona grand jury on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in efforts to overturn the state’s 2020 presidential election results. The indictment accuses 11 Republicans of acting as “fake electors” and falsely claiming that Trump had defeated President Joe Biden in Arizona. The names of seven additional defendants were redacted from court documents released by Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes, with plans to reveal them after they are served with charges.

Among those indicted are Kelli Ward, former chair of the Arizona Republican Party; ex-U.S. Senate candidate Jim Lamon; state senators Jake Hoffman and Anthony Kern; and Tyler Bowyer, the Republican National Committee’s Arizona committeeman and chief operating officer of the pro-Trump Turning Point Action organization. Former top state Republicans Greg Safsten and Robert Montgomery, as well as GOP activists Samuel Moorhead, Nancy Cottle, and Loraine Pellegrino, are also facing charges in connection to the alleged election subversion.

The Arizona district attorney’s office and representatives for former President Trump were contacted by Newsweek for comment on the indictments. This developing story highlights the ongoing investigation into attempts to overturn the 2020 election results, shedding light on the role played by various individuals, including prominent figures closely associated with Trump. The indictment marks a significant development in the legal repercussions faced by those involved in challenging the election outcome.

As the probe into the 2020 election subversion continues, the indictment of 18 allies of former President Trump underscores the gravity of the accusations against them. The alleged actions of the defendants, including the assertion of false electoral victory by Trump and the designation of “fake electors,” point to efforts to manipulate the election outcome. These indictments represent a significant step in holding individuals accountable for their role in disputes over the legitimacy of the election results.

Newsweek’s commitment to challenging conventional wisdom and seeking common ground reflects the ongoing efforts to uncover the truth behind the 2020 election controversy. By reporting on developments related to the indictments of Trump allies in Arizona, Newsweek aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the legal and political ramifications of the alleged election subversion. As additional information becomes available, Newsweek will continue to update this story to provide readers with the latest insights into this complex and evolving situation.
