A building with 12 rooms for rent, comprised of two interconnected blocks, one with two storeys and the other with three, caught fire in Vietnam. The building was situated down a 2m-wide alley and reportedly used for selling and fixing electric bicycles in the courtyard. When the fire broke out, a neighbour heard an explosion and initially thought it was a fight or something hitting the window. The neighbours, including the building’s landlord, were very scared and had to run out of the alley to safety.
One survivor, who lived on the second floor with his wife, described waking up to fire and smoke rising fiercely from the first floor into the hallway. The intense heat forced the couple back into their room, where they crawled into the bathroom and used a wet towel over their noses to breathe. After about an hour of this, they were rescued and taken to the hospital. Another neighbour reported seeing bright flames rising through the building’s corrugated metal roof, with fire particles flying and thick smoke making it impossible to see. There were also explosions and screams coming from inside the burning building and surrounding houses.
Despite efforts from neighbours to pour buckets of water onto the roof, the smoke continued to rise higher. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, which is the latest deadly blaze to hit the communist country. The exact reason for the fire is unknown at this time, and investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the blaze. The flames and smoke caused chaos and panic among the residents of the building and the surrounding houses, with many people being affected by the tragic event. The community is coming together to support those affected by the fire and to ensure that such a tragedy does not happen again in the future.
