Istanbul Police Department’s Traffic Inspection Branch launched an investigation after footage of some drivers obstructing traffic flow by holding a military convoy on Mithatpaşa Street on May 10 was shared on social media. After examining the footage, the teams identified the identities of 9 vehicle drivers from their license plate numbers and apprehended them. The drivers were fined a total of 18,630 Turkish liras for violations such as “organizing a convoy,” “stopping in tunnels on the road,” and “driving recklessly” according to the Highway Traffic Law.
Furthermore, on May 11, 5 drivers who were found to be obstructing traffic flow by holding a military gathering inside Dudullu Tunnel were fined a total of 31,182 Turkish liras. A total of 14 drivers, who were fined a combined total of 49,812 Turkish liras, were taken to the police station for necessary legal procedures to be carried out. The actions of these drivers not only caused disruption to traffic flow but also posed a danger to themselves as well as other road users.
