According to a statement from the Governorship, 14 lawyers – 8 of whom are women – were arrested for attempting to forcibly enter the Istanbul Courthouse at 13.00, despite the Prosecutor’s office not allowing a press statement and causing damage to public property while resisting a member of the staff. In another incident, 26 people – including 9 women and 2 minors – were arrested for disobeying a ban on unauthorized demonstrations and physically resisting officials, resulting in the injury of 2 police officers at the DEM Party Sultanbeyli district office at 16.00.

There was also an incident where a group of 150 individuals attempted to hold an unauthorized demonstration at Esenyurt Cumhuriyet Square at 18.00. Despite being informed of a ban by the Esenyurt District Governorship and being warned to disperse, 87 individuals (20 women, 67 men) refused to leave and were subsequently arrested at 19.15 on Democracy Street in Sancaktepe district’s Inonu neighborhood. Additionally, 5 individuals were arrested for conducting an illegal demonstration.

Previously, the Governorship had announced that 14 individuals who were arrested for the unauthorized demonstration at the Istanbul Courthouse had been released pending further investigation. They were charged with offenses such as “resisting law enforcement, obstructing official duties, and damaging public property.” The cases of these individuals were being sent to judicial authorities for further review.

These incidents are part of a series of protests and unauthorized demonstrations that have taken place in various locations in Istanbul. The authorities are taking a firm stance against such actions, emphasizing the importance of following regulations and permits for any gatherings or demonstrations. The arrests made in these cases serve as a warning to those who may be considering engaging in similar activities in the future.

In light of these events, it is clear that there is a need for better communication and cooperation between the authorities and the public to ensure that demonstrations are carried out peacefully and in accordance with the law. The authorities are urging individuals to respect the rules and guidelines set forth for public gatherings to prevent any further incidents of violence or disruption of public order.

As the investigations into these incidents continue, it is important for all parties involved to cooperate and adhere to the legal process. The authorities are working to maintain public safety and order while also respecting the rights of individuals to peacefully assemble and express their opinions. By upholding the law and engaging in constructive dialogue, further confrontations and incidents can be avoided in the future.
