Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused China of helping Russia disrupt an upcoming peace summit focused on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The summit, scheduled to take place in Switzerland in June, is facing interference from Russia using Chinese influence in Asia. Zelenskyy claimed that Russia is pressuring other countries not to attend the peace talks, with China being an instrumental tool in this disruption. The Chinese Foreign Ministry has indicated that it will not attend the conference, citing unmet expectations. Russia has not been invited and has dismissed the summit altogether.

Zelenskyy highlighted key points of Ukraine’s 10-point peace plan that will be the focus of the Switzerland summit. These include nuclear security, food security, and the return of abducted Ukrainian children from Russia. Calling for urgent action, Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of resolving these issues as time is running out for the affected children who are being taught to hate their homeland. Despite 106 nations sending senior-level representatives to the summit, Zelenskyy expressed disappointment at the absence of some world leaders, with the U.S. not confirming President Joe Biden’s attendance yet.

During the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, Zelenskyy reiterated his call for Asian nations to support Ukraine in the peace process. He emphasized the need for Asia to understand the situation in Ukraine and provide political and humanitarian support, rather than military assistance. Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine had never demanded military support from Asian countries, but rather sought their solidarity in ending the war and supporting Ukrainian civilians. He urged Asian countries to participate in the summit to demonstrate their commitment to peace and prevent Russia from derailing the peace process.

Zelenskyy announced his intention to meet with Singapore’s Prime Minister and President, expressing his desire for Singaporean leaders to personally participate in the peace summit. He emphasized the importance of global involvement in achieving peace and ensuring that agreements reached at the summit are implemented effectively. Zelenskyy stressed the significance of the global majority standing together to end the war initiated by Russia and prevent any obstacles to the peace process. He called for support from Asian countries to help Ukraine in achieving its peace goals and ending the conflict with Russia.

The Ukrainian president accused Russia of threatening other nations with blockades of goods such as agricultural exports, chemical products, and high energy prices. Zelenskyy’s remarks revealed the tactics employed by Russia to pressure countries and disrupt the peace talks. He emphasized the need for international solidarity and support to counter these threats and move towards a peaceful resolution. Zelenskyy’s call for Asian nations to participate in the summit reflects his efforts to garner global support and ensure the success of the peace process in resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
