Fox News Digital reported on the backlash faced by the White House for recognizing Transgender Day of Visibility on Easter Sunday. The White House released a statement acknowledging the day and affirming support for transgender Americans, which was criticized by conservatives and others who viewed it as an attack on Christianity. Despite the controversy, International Transgender Day of Visibility has been celebrated annually on March 31 for over a decade, while the date of Easter Sunday changes each year.

Critics called on President Biden to apologize for the proclamation, with the Trump campaign accusing him of disrespecting millions of Catholics and Christians who view Easter as a day solely dedicated to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. However, other social media users pointed out that cities, universities, LGBT organizations, and government officials celebrate a variety of related holidays throughout the year. Fox News Digital identified at least 28 such holidays in the U.S., including Pride Month in June, LGBT History Month in October, and Transgender Awareness Month in November.

While not every LGBT-focused holiday is formally recognized by the White House, the Biden administration has celebrated several throughout the year. These include National Coming Out Day, Lesbian Day of Visibility, International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, Pride Month, Spirit Day, Intersex Awareness Day, and Transgender Day of Remembrance. The administration has marked Transgender Day of Visibility since 2021, with a spokesperson emphasizing Biden’s commitment to bringing people together across differences.

In response to the backlash over the timing of the recognition of Transgender Day of Visibility, the White House defended its inclusiveness message and reiterated Biden’s commitment to upholding the dignity and freedoms of every American. Despite criticism from some, the administration is dedicated to promoting and supporting the LGBT community, as demonstrated by hosting the White House’s largest Pride celebration last year. Biden, a Catholic, has consistently spoken out against discrimination towards the gay community and expressed support for the transgender community during his recent State of the Union address.

The Biden administration’s past events honoring the LGBT community have attracted criticism as well, including incidents at a Pride event at the White House and during the signing of the Respect for Marriage Act. Nevertheless, the administration remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting equality and acceptance for all Americans. While Republicans continue to criticize the White House for its handling of LGBT issues, the administration’s actions reflect its dedication to inclusivity and support for the LGBT community.
