Marcus Rashford has been notably absent from Manchester United’s starting lineup for the past five matches. The root of this change appears to stem from a conversation between Rashford and Ruben Amorim in early December, following late-night outings close to game times which Amorim disapproves of. The Manchester United Head coach left Rashford out of the consecutive lineups, a move seen as a consequence of Rashford’s non-compliance with the team’s conduct. Rashford defended his actions, explaining that his social life is no different from other Premier League players and he is subjected to excessive scrutiny.

Amorim’s approach to Rashford’s situation is backed by United’s administration, including Sir Dave Brailsford, Omar Berrada, and Jason Wilcox. Rashford’s future with United is becoming a significant transfer window issue, and his lack of play time seems to signify a bleak outlook for an imminent return to favor under Amorim’s leadership. Reports indicate that Rashford’s recent performances and conduct have failed to meet the team’s standards.

Marcus Rashford’s position in the team and his relationship with head coaches have been under scrutiny. The talented striker exhibits brilliant performance during training but fails to replicate this in matches, a discord that confuses many. There have been debates over Rashford’s preferred playing position, with the player often expressing his preference for the left flank, contradicting the coaches’ plan for him.

Rashford’s situation steeply declined after a rash choice to party on consecutive nights before an essential training. Erik ten Hag, the previous manager, benched Rashford in response to this indiscipline. After facing disciplinary action and numerous discussions with Brailsford, Rashford requested a personal meeting where he spent an extended period reflecting over his behavior.

The possibility of an impending exit for Rashford is not off the table. After some of his closest friends, including Jadon Sancho and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, left United, Rashford expressed readiness for a “new challenge”. However, finding a club to match his high wages and transfer fee seems unlikely unless he moves to the Saudi Pro League, which seems not to appeal to Rashford.

Rashford’s inconsistent training performance complicates his situation. His running statistics are slightly above his career average, but team members have reported his attitude and implement decisions needing significant improvement. As a 27-year-old player, he is expected to provide excellent examples for the younger players. The choices he makes off-field, however, seem to not align with the kind of leadership the team expects from him. If Rashford does not show meaningful improvement soon, his continued absence or departure remains a real possibility.
