Actor Shannen Doherty, known for her role on “Charmed,” passed away at the age of 53 due to breast cancer. Her publicist confirmed her death, stating that she lost her battle with cancer after fighting the disease for many years. Doherty was surrounded by her loved ones and her dog, Bowie, at the time of her passing, and her family has requested privacy as they grieve.

Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, with the disease spreading to one lymph node. After going into remission for two years, she announced in 2020 that the cancer had returned as Stage 4 and had metastasized to her bones and brain. She underwent brain surgery in 2023 as part of her treatment. Despite trying various protocols, Doherty shared that her previous treatment methods were no longer effective in a late June episode of her podcast, “Let’s Be Clear.”

Stage 4 breast cancer, also known as metastatic breast cancer, occurs when cancer cells have spread beyond the breast, typically to the bones first. Common signs of Stage 4 breast cancer include bone pain, headaches, nausea, facial numbness, and changes in speech, vision, or balance. Unfortunately, there is no known cure for metastatic breast cancer once the cancer cells have spread to other parts of the body.

Throughout her battle with breast cancer, Doherty openly shared her experiences with her illness. In early 2020, it was revealed through court documents that her cancer was terminal. Subsequently, she underwent surgery in January 2023 to address the cancer that had metastasized to her brain. By November 2023, Doherty disclosed that the cancer had spread to her bones, emphasizing that she would require ongoing cancer treatment for the remainder of her life. Despite the challenging circumstances, Doherty remained candid about her journey, discussing the changing nature of cancer cells and the need for evolving treatment protocols.

The passing of Shannen Doherty at 53 years old due to breast cancer serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the devastating impact of this disease. Her bravery in sharing her battle with cancer publicly and advocating for continued research and awareness has left a lasting legacy. As her loved ones mourn her loss and honor her memory, Doherty’s resilience and courage in the face of adversity will continue to inspire those touched by her story. May she rest in peace, knowing that her fight against cancer has made a difference in the lives of many.
