Two siblings, Seyf Al Salo and Nagam Al Salo, were playing outside on Şehit Harun Parlak Street in Karşıyaka neighbourhood when a heavy rain started in the afternoon and the two were swept away by the current. Nagam Al Salo was dragged under a car by the force of the current but was eventually rescued with the help of nearby residents. The girl received initial treatment on the sidewalk by employees of a nearby dental clinic. She was revived with CPR and then taken to the hospital by ambulance. Her brother, Seyf Al Salo, was also rescued with the help of bystanders.
Hakan Özdemir, an employee at the dental clinic, described the incident as happening within 3 minutes. They noticed the children being swept away while filming the rainfall and quickly sprang into action to save them. One child was pulled out early, while the other was rescued from under the car a few minutes later. Thanks to the quick response, both children were saved. Özdemir mentioned that his colleague performed CPR on one of the children before the ambulance arrived.
Another employee at the clinic, Özlem Şimşek, recounted the events that unfolded during the incident. She described how they saw the two children being swept away by the flood and initially thought the car in front of them had stopped to prevent such a scenario. However, when they saw the children being dragged under the car, they immediately rushed to help. One child was quickly taken to safety, while the other was trapped under debris for about 7 minutes. They were worried that the child might have escaped to the other side. Fortunately, they did not stop their efforts and managed to rescue the child, who was unconscious. After performing CPR and reviving the child, they handed over the child to the ambulance. The children’s mother arrived shortly after.
