The National Police are investigating the deaths of a man and a woman, whose bodies were found with “obvious signs of violence” in a building in Logroño that was set on fire earlier this morning. Two men aged 40 and 46 with a long criminal history have been arrested for this crime, as confirmed by police commanders. However, the investigation is still ongoing and new arrests are not ruled out. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when a call alerted about a fire at an old Bankia office on San Millán street, near the city center of La Rioja’s capital. During the fire extinguishing tasks at this building, which had been occupied by homeless people for two years, firefighters discovered the two bodies, which were then taken to the Legal Medicine Institute for identification and clarification of the cause of death.

In light of the “evidence of aggression and criminality,” as described by the Chief of National Police in La Rioja, Manuel Laguna, an operation was launched leading to the arrest of the two men four hours later on the same street where the incident occurred. Regarding the motives behind the crime, the National Police prefer not to speculate at this time. “It could be drug-related, a settling of scores. We do not rule out any hypothesis,” stated the head of the Judicial Police brigade in La Rioja, Eduardo Esteban Pinillos. The victims were living in this building in “unsanitary conditions”, along with other homeless individuals in the city, and at the time of the crime, they were the only ones inside. The property has been sealed off awaiting a forensic inspection that may provide more clues about the murder.

The police did not disclose the cause of death, a matter under investigation, but they did confirm that the two suspects “were in the vicinity of the crime scene.” “We have indications of their involvement and now we must confirm it,” clarified Esteban Pinillos. The investigation is ongoing, and the authorities have not ruled out the possibility of more arrests in connection with the case. The building where the bodies were found has been cordoned off pending further investigation by the Scientific Police, in hopes of gathering more evidence related to the murder.

The community has been shocked by this violent incident, which has left two people dead under suspicious circumstances. The police are working diligently to gather information and piece together the events leading to this tragedy. Local residents are concerned about the safety of their neighborhood and await updates from the authorities regarding the progress of the investigation. The tragic deaths of the man and woman found in the burned building have raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the crime and the perpetrators responsible. As the investigation unfolds, the police will continue to pursue leads and gather evidence to bring those responsible to justice.
