Former President Donald Trump has delayed announcing his running mate choice until the start of the Republican National Convention on July 15, pushing back his original timeline. Trump had previously mentioned that he would announce his No. 2 “probably not too much before the convention,” but now plans to make the announcement sometime during the convention, which traditionally occurs on the penultimate night.

Trump, who is 77 years old, has not provided concrete details about who his potential vice president may be. North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum mentioned that Trump had indicated to supporters at Mar-a-Lago that there could be up to 50 people on the list of running mate contenders. During an interview, Trump mentioned four names as potential vice presidential candidates: former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, Senators Marco Rubio and JD Vance, and House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik.

Despite naming these potential contenders, Trump refused to provide further clues when asked about his top three choices, stating that there are many individuals who would do a fantastic job. He also weighed in on his former rival Nikki Haley, who recently announced that she would be voting for him in the upcoming election. Trump expressed appreciation for Haley’s support, stating that they share similar ideas and thoughts, and indicated that she would likely be part of his team in some capacity, although she is not being considered for the position of running mate.

Furthermore, Trump clarified that Haley is not in the running to be his vice presidential candidate. The long list of potential vice presidential candidates reportedly includes Senator Tim Scott and former Hawaii Democratic Representative Tulsi Gabbard, among others. Trump’s decision to delay the announcement of his running mate choice until the convention adds an element of anticipation and suspense leading up to the event, allowing for speculation and discussion about who might ultimately be selected for the position.

As the convention approaches, the spotlight will be on Trump as he decides on his running mate, with the potential candidates eagerly awaiting the final decision. The delay in announcing the vice presidential choice has generated interest and curiosity within the political sphere, as individuals speculate on who will be picked to join the ticket for the upcoming election. The run-up to the convention will likely see increased attention on Trump’s potential running mate, with the final selection expected to be a crucial aspect of his campaign strategy.
