A horrific accident occurred on Sunday evening on the Mersin Tarsus-Adana-Gaziantep Highway in Yenice, involving four vehicles. The driver of a passenger bus lost control, crashed through the barriers, crossed into the opposite lane, and rolled over, crushing two cars underneath. The bus then collided with a truck before coming to a stop.
Ten individuals lost their lives in the devastating accident, with 40 others sustaining injuries, nine of them critically.

The bodies of the deceased were sent to their hometowns after undergoing autopsies. Eight of the victims were laid to rest in various districts of Diyarbakır, including Bağlar, Hazro, Hani, Çermik, and Kocaköy. Meanwhile, those injured were taken to hospitals in Adana and Mersin for ongoing treatment.

The driver responsible for the accident has been arrested and detained. TRT Haber obtained the initial statement the driver gave to the gendarmerie, in which he claimed to have been traveling at 110 kilometers per hour and cited slippery roads due to rain as a contributing factor. The driver expressed confusion over how the accident occurred, stating, “I don’t understand how it happened.”

Surveillance footage from the Diyarbakır Bus Terminal revealed the moments leading up to the bus’s departure and subsequent involvement in the accident. Three public prosecutors have been assigned to thoroughly investigate the causes and consequences of the incident.

Following the accident, law enforcement continued their on-site examinations after daybreak. They documented passengers’ personal belongings scattered around the area and handed them over to highway officials, noting the items in an official report.
