Angelina Jolie and her daughter Vivienne had a successful night at the 77th Tony Awards as the musical they produced, The Outsiders, took home the top honor of Best Musical alongside three other wins. The production also earned Best Direction of a Musical and Best Sound Design of a Musical, among others. Angelina and Vivienne co-produced the show, which premiered in April, and proudly accepted the awards on stage. The musical is based on the iconic novel by SE Hinton and tells the story of two rival gangs in 1960s Tulsa, Oklahoma.

In the individual categories, Sarah Paulson won Best Actress in a Play for her performance in Appropriate, a play about a dysfunctional family battling over inheritance and a dark family secret. Daniel Radcliffe won Best Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical for his performance in Merrily We Roll Along, a show that follows the changing lives of three friends over 20 years. Jonathan Groff earned Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for his role in Merrily We Roll Along, and Kecia Lewis won Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical for Hell’s Kitchen.

Jeremy Strong was awarded Best Actor in A Play for his work in An Enemy Of The People, a play about a doctor who uncovers a catastrophe that risks the lives of his community. Kara Young won Best Actress in a Featured Role in a Play for her performance in Purlie Victorious, which tells the story of a preacher reclaiming his inheritance and church. Will Brill took home Best Actor in a Featured Role in a Play for Stereophonic, a play about a fictional rock band on the cusp of superstardom, and Maleah Joi Moon earned Best Actress in a Musical for Hell’s Kitchen, a show inspired by Alicia Keys’s upbringing in Manhattan.

The event was hosted by Ariana DeBose, who also won an Oscar for West Side Story, and took place at the David H. Koch Theater in New York City. The winners in various categories were recognized for their outstanding performances and contributions to the stage. The 77th Tony Awards celebrated the diversity and talent of individuals across the American theater community, showcasing the best of Broadway and beyond.
