The viral dance trend known as brat summer has made its way to the 2024 Paris Olympics, where English diver Tom Daley and his fellow athletes showcased their moves in a video posted on Instagram. The group, consisting of Jordan Houlden, Jack Laugher, Kyle Kothari, Anthony Harding, and Noah Williams, danced to Charli XCX’s “Apple” clad only in their speedos and shoes. The video, filmed on a rooftop ahead of the closing ceremony, was captioned by Daley as “BRAT Summer Olympics,” in reference to Charli XCX’s album that popularized the dance trend.

Tom Daley’s participation in the Paris games culminated in a silver medal in the men’s synchronized 10-meter diving event with teammate Noah Williams. Reflecting on his achievements, Daley paid tribute to his late father, Robert Daley, who had been a supportive presence throughout his career. Robert passed away in 2011, one year before Tom’s first Olympic medal win in the 2012 Tokyo games. Despite missing that moment, Robert had seen Tom compete in the 2008 Beijing Olympics as the youngest athlete representing Great Britain at the age of 14.

Tom Daley expressed his belief that everything happens for a reason and that his father had witnessed significant milestones in his career, such as his first world title in 2009 at just 15 years old. He hoped that his father would be proud of his achievements since then. Throughout the Paris Olympics, Daley’s husband Dustin Lance Black and their two sons, Robbie and Phoenix, have been a source of support and encouragement for him. Daley recalled a touching moment in the Olympic and Paralympic Museum in Colorado Springs where his son Robbie expressed his desire to see him dive at the Olympics, inspiring Daley to make his return to the sport.

As Tom Daley navigates the challenges and triumphs of his Olympic career, he continues to be motivated by his family, particularly his late father and his husband and children. The support and encouragement he receives from his loved ones play a vital role in his journey as an athlete. Daley’s resilience, determination, and passion for his sport have carried him through various obstacles, earning him accolades and admiration from fans worldwide. The brat summer craze may have provided a fun and light-hearted moment during the Paris Olympics, but for Daley, the real victory lies in the unwavering support of his family and the memories he carries with him throughout his career.
