The Sustainable Development Festival is back from May 7 to 23 with a program in six main stages in Ivrea, Turin, Bologna, Milan, Palermo, and Rome, including over a thousand events promoted by civil society in Italy and around the world. New features include the podcast “The Elephant in the Room – 10 News from the Future of Africa” produced by Rai Radio, ASviS, and Amref Italy, concerts with the Heroes Festival, and the campaign “Looking to the Future” which encourages awareness and action. The 2024 edition of the Festival is supported by Rai as a media partner, with Rai networks broadcasting the festival’s spot starting from May 3.
Rai’s commitment to sustainability aligns with the goals set by the new Service Contract, focusing on sustainability, environmental and digital transition, youth, and inclusion. The Public Service has already begun to respond to these challenges with the recent approval of the first three-year Sustainability Plan, closely linked to the new Industrial Plan. The Sustainable Development Festival, with the involvement of all Rai structures and professionals, aims to make sustainability topics more popular and reach a wider audience. Rai can play a crucial role in this endeavor, as highlighted by Roberto Natale, the director of Rai For Sustainability-ESG.
Rai has been a media partner of the Sustainable Development Festival since its first edition, and starting from 2020, hosts the opening press conference at the Rai Radio headquarters. The collaboration between Rai and the Alliance for Sustainability has grown over the years, enriching with new content and initiatives annually. An example of this collaboration is the podcast “The Elephant in the Room – 10 News from the Future of Africa,” produced by Rai Radio in collaboration with ASviS and Amref Health Africa. Rai’s commitment to sustainability includes awareness campaigns, energy efficiency initiatives, and editorial projects such as “M’Illumino di Meno.” Rai Radio will cover the Festival from various angles, exploring all facets of sustainability.
The various channels of Rai Radio, including Radio1, Radio2, Radio3, Isoradio, and digital radio stations like No Name Radio and Radio Live Napoli, will broadcast programs related to sustainability during the Festival. Radio Kids will offer storytelling about sustainable development tailored to children. Additionally, at the Turin Book Fair, there will be a panel on Rai’s environmental practices, focusing on the experience of using virtual sets in the production of ‘Chlorophyll’ to reduce emissions and transport. The panel will highlight the use of technology to create innovative programs while reducing environmental impact.
