A cold air trough, known as a Dana, has moved towards the Peninsula, focusing on the Balearic Islands. The archipelago is expected to be hit hard by the Dana, with heavy rains, storms, intense winds, and hail. All the islands are under an orange weather warning, with the north and northeast of Mallorca under a red warning, where brutal rainfall of 180 liters per square meter is expected. Catalonia is also under a yellow rain warning. The AEMET has warned that the instability will increase in the Balearic Islands but decrease in the eastern third of the Peninsula. Heavy rain, hail, and strong winds are expected, with the potential for very significant accumulations.

In the Peninsula, an anticyclonic wedge will dominate the western half, moving towards the Mediterranean. The eastern Cantabrian coast will see cloudy skies with rainfall, while the rest of the country will have clear skies with low chances of precipitation. Temperatures will rise in the west and north and decrease in the southeast and the archipelagos. The maximum temperatures will surpass 36-39°C in the southwest. Over the past six hours, more than 13,700 lightning strikes have been recorded in the eastern Peninsula, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Balearic Islands. Heavy showers and strong winds exceeding 90 km/h have also been reported.

On Friday, the Dana is expected to move towards Corsica, bringing stable weather to most of the Peninsula. The instability in the Balearic Islands is expected to diminish throughout the day. Clear skies are forecasted for much of the country, with some possible instability in eastern coastal areas early in the day. There may be some showers and intense storms in parts of the Balearic Islands. In the afternoon, there may be some convective cloudiness in the eastern third of the Peninsula, with the possibility of showers and occasional storms in Catalonia and the Pyrenees. The temperatures will generally rise, with a significant increase in the northern half of the Peninsula and the hills of the Canary Islands. The interior of the southwest quadrant is expected to surpass 36°C.

By Saturday, the weakened Dana is likely to move towards Italy, ending the situation of heavy rain and storms in the Spanish Mediterranean. The weather is expected to stabilize across the country, with clear skies or only scattered clouds. Overall, the Dana has brought severe weather conditions to the Balearic Islands and parts of the Peninsula, with heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail. The authorities have issued warnings to ensure the safety of residents and visitors in the affected areas.
