Barilla, the world’s leading pasta producer, partnered with an Oxford scientist and an Emmy-winning composer to create the Al Bronzo Soundtrack. The soundtrack features songs specifically designed for each Al Bronzo pasta cut: Bucatini, Mezzi Rigatoni, Spaghetti, Penne Rigate, Fusilli, and Linguine. University of Oxford Experimental Psychologist Charles Spence assessed each pasta shape using the concept of “sonic seasoning,” which pairs sound with specific flavors and textures to enhance food experiences.

Spence found that Barilla Al Bronzo pasta shapes have unique sonic seasoning attributes that warrant a musical composition to enhance the sensory experience of eating. The composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer was brought on board to create the Al Bronzo Soundtrack, drawing on Spence’s scientific insights. De Veer crafted six tracks to elicit distinct visceral reactions with each bite of Al Bronzo pasta, using tones, tempos, pitches, and harmonics to enhance the dining experience.

The tracks on the Al Bronzo Soundtrack are tailored to create a multi-sensory experience when enjoying pasta, combining Barilla’s sauce grip with de Veer’s musical compositions. The goal is to elevate dining to new heights by engaging all of the senses while consuming pasta. The collaboration between Barilla and de Veer brings a new level of creativity to the culinary world, merging food and music in a unique and innovative way.

The Al Bronzo Soundtrack is available on AlBronzoSoundtrack.com and Spotify, allowing fans to immerse themselves in the sonic experience while enjoying their favorite pasta shapes. There is also an opportunity to win a limited-edition vinyl record version of the soundtrack by entering a giveaway on the website before April 10. By combining sound, texture, and flavor in the dining experience, Barilla and its collaborators aim to provide an unforgettable and enriching mealtime experience for pasta lovers.

This project expands on Barilla’s previous success with the Barilla Playlist Timer in 2021, further solidifying the brand’s commitment to enhancing the dining experience through innovative and engaging initiatives. By incorporating music into the enjoyment of pasta, Barilla continues to push the boundaries of traditional culinary experiences, encouraging consumers to engage with food in new and exciting ways. The Al Bronzo Soundtrack represents a unique fusion of art, science, and food, inviting diners to explore the sensory dimensions of their pasta dishes in a whole new light.
