In December 22nd, a minibus driven by Ismail Guncu trying to go from Van to the Bahcesaray district got stuck in the snow and ice on the road. The minibus faced a great danger when a snow avalanche fell in front of them, causing Guncu and his companions to abandon the minibus on the road and leave the area. Later, another avalanche fell, dragging the minibus down the slope about 20 meters.

Due to the risk of avalanches, the road from Van to Bahcesaray was closed on December 22nd, causing the minibus to be buried under snow for days. Guncu requested the Bahcesaray District Governorship and relevant authorities to help him retrieve the minibus that had been buried under snow since December 22nd, after the road was cleared by the Highway 11th Regional Directorate teams.

As a result, today, the District Gendarmerie Command’s crane and the Van Metropolitan Municipality’s construction machinery were directed to the area to begin the operation. The minibus was pulled out onto the road by tying ropes to it and with the support of the crane, construction machinery, and citizens.

The owner of the minibus, Guncu, expressed his happiness at the retrieval of his vehicle after days of waiting. He thanked the District Gendarmerie Commander and everyone who supported them during this difficult time. The road, which had been closed during the operation, was reopened after the minibus was successfully retrieved.
