Citizens showed interest in the first Eid al-Adha prayer held at Kariye Mosque, which became a mosque again with the Presidential decree dated August 1, 2020 and completed restoration after 4 years, and opened for worship on May 6.

Those who wanted to welcome Eid al-Adha here began to come to the mosque with the morning prayer.

The congregation filled the inside of the mosque and also lined up outside on prayer rugs for prayer.

After the prayer, citizens greeted each other outside the mosque.

The building, which was used as a church for many years after its construction, was converted into a mosque by the Grand Vizier Hadım Ali Pasha (Atik Ali Pasha) during the reign of Sultan Bayezid II. Kariye, which was turned into a museum in 1945 and then connected to the Museum Administration in 1948, became a mosque again with the Presidential Decree dated August 1, 2020.

After this decision, the restoration work in the mosque was completed 4 years later.

The mosque was reopened for worship on May 6 with a live connection from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Presidential Beştepe National Congress and Culture Center.
