Two individuals have been caught in connection with the death of a person due to a stray bullet in Samsun. It was determined that the bullet came from a gun fired at a wedding celebration approximately 1400 meters away. The incident took place on August 17, 2024, in the Eğrikum neighborhood of the Çarşamba district of Samsun. Raif Öntürk (80), who was working in his garden, lost his life due to the stray bullet that hit him.
The Samsun Provincial Gendarmerie Command and the Çarşamba District Gendarmerie Command conducted a 5-month pursuit and investigation. As a result of the criminal examinations conducted by the Gendarmerie Criminal Laboratory Directorate, it was determined that the bullet came from a gun fired into the air at a wedding celebration approximately 1400 meters away. S.A. (30), who was found to have fired the gun, was captured as a result of the gendarmerie’s pursuit and handed over to the Çarşamba Closed Type Prison.
In the course of the investigation, it was found that the individual named S.A. purchased the gun used in the incident from a person named T.S. The investigation revealed that T.S. sold the gun to S.A. for money. It was also discovered that after the sale, the individual claimed that the gun was stolen from his home on February 7, 2023, trying to make it appear as though it was stolen. T.S., who is currently in custody, will be taken to the courthouse tomorrow after the necessary procedures.
The authorities indicated that T.S., who sold the gun involved in the incident to S.A., will be taken to court after the necessary procedures are completed. It was learned that S.A. claimed the gun had been stolen from his house on February 7, 2023, after buying it from the man known as T.S. It has been stated that the investigation into the gun will proceed, and further information will be provided as it is uncovered.
