A 10-meter private boat named “M. Aydoğan” experienced engine failure while cruising in the Bosphorus, in front of Kilitbahir Castle. The captain of the boat, noticing the issue, reported it to the Çanakkale Strait Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) Directorate. In response, the KEGM’s “KIYEM-1” fast rescue boat was dispatched to the area.

With the boat starting to drift, the 5 people aboard were in need of assistance. The KIYEM-1 quickly arrived at the scene and towed the boat to Çanakkale Marina for repairs. This swift response prevented any further complications or dangers in the busy strait, ensuring the safety of those on board.

Engine failures are not uncommon in marine settings, and having a reliable system in place for emergency situations such as this is crucial. The KEGM’s quick response and efficient handling of the situation showcased the importance of well-equipped and trained rescue teams in ensuring the safety of boaters navigating through challenging waters.

The incident serves as a reminder for boat owners and operators to regularly maintain and inspect their vessels to prevent unexpected malfunctions. Quick reporting of any issues to relevant authorities, such as the VTS Directorate, can lead to prompt assistance and a timely resolution of problems, potentially preventing accidents and injuries at sea.

As summer approaches and more people take to the waters for recreation, it is essential to prioritize safety and preparedness while boating. Proper maintenance, communication, and emergency response plans can make a significant difference in ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience on the water, as demonstrated by the successful rescue operation in the Çanakkale Strait.
