Authorities in the district of Tatvan in Bitlis have started snow removal operations on Mount Nemrut, which is home to Turkey’s largest and the world’s second largest crater lake and a popular destination for local and foreign tourists during the summer months.

The snow removal teams, operating under the Provincial Special Administration, are using 3 construction machines, 1 grader, and 1 snow blower to clear a 13-kilometer road where snow thickness can reach up to 6 meters, especially in the valleys where wind plays a role.

Nail Aşit, the Chief of the Central Construction Site of the Provincial Special Administration, stated that they have initiated intensive work to open the road to Nemrut Crater Lake as soon as possible, emphasizing that it is an important tourism center. He mentioned that there are snow depths reaching 5-6 meters in some places, and while people in many parts of the country are enjoying the sea, they are working on snow removal in this region. They aim to reach the lake by the first or second day of the holiday. Nemrut Crater Lake is a very significant destination for both local and foreign tourists, and they hope to open the road to transportation as soon as possible.

The snow removal operations on Mount Nemrut are crucial not only for providing access to the crater lake for tourists but also for the local economy which heavily relies on tourism. Opening the road early and ensuring safe access to the lake will have a positive impact on the livelihoods of the people in the region.

Despite the challenges posed by the extreme weather conditions and heavy snowfall, the snow removal teams continue to work diligently to clear the road. Their efforts are not only aimed at ensuring the safety of travelers but also at showcasing the natural beauty of the region and attracting visitors to experience the wonders of Mount Nemrut and its stunning crater lake.

As the teams work tirelessly to clear the snow and open the road to Nemrut Crater Lake, local authorities and residents are hopeful for a successful outcome and look forward to welcoming tourists to the area once again. The beauty and uniqueness of Mount Nemrut and its crater lake continue to draw visitors from near and far, and efforts to maintain and promote this natural wonder are ongoing.
