Mikel Izal, a non-smoker and straight-edge individual, achieved academic success with a 9.2 on his Selectividad exams and an engineering degree in telecommunications. He spent four years working on software-related tasks in various companies. However, the real shift in his life came in the spring of 2018 when he realized the negative aspects of fame and popularity. An online incident involving insinuations of sexual content prompted him to release a statement denying any wrongdoing. The situation left him feeling vulnerable and betrayed, leading to a loss of trust.

Following this traumatic experience, Izal found inspiration for his music once again. After a three-year creative block, he experienced a burst of creativity on a bus ride to his family home in Vitoria. This led to the creation of the song “Meiuqèr,” which became the starting point for the band’s new album, “Hogar.” The lyrics express gratitude to his family and friends for their support during a difficult time. This period of introspection and creativity became a turning point for Izal, both personally and professionally.

Born in Pamplona and raised in various cities due to his father’s job, Izal comes from a middle-class, hardworking family with a strong sense of discipline and progressive values. His early exposure to music, particularly Queen and later Extremoduro, sparked his passion for songwriting and performing. His transition from a telecommunications engineer to a full-time musician marked the beginning of the band Izal in 2010. With a strong work ethic and loyal followers, the group quickly gained recognition and success.

Over the years, Izal’s music has evolved, blending personal lyrics with epic and accessible melodies. As the band’s popularity grew, they began filling large venues and performing at major festivals. Izal’s latest album, “Hogar,” explores themes of vulnerability, fear, and introspection. The lyrics reveal his inner struggles and reflections on relationships, particularly painful breakups. Through therapy and self-reflection, Izal strives to overcome his fears and find freedom and happiness.

Despite his intense and perfectionistic nature, Izal acknowledges the challenges of his creative process and the impact of his personal experiences on his music. His dedication to his craft and willingness to explore his emotions and vulnerabilities have resonated with audiences. As he embarks on a new tour with his band, Izal looks towards the future with a sense of peace and optimism, embracing the opportunities for growth and self-discovery that lie ahead in his journey.
