Heather Torres, a 41-year-old stay-at-home mom from Dallas, Texas, has turned her passion for design into a successful side business. After receiving compliments from neighbors on her own front porch decor, she began decorating front porches for the fall holidays in 2020. What started as a few porch decorations quickly turned into a booming business, with Torres eventually decorating 89 porches in a single day. Inspired by a visit to the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, she began purchasing various sizes and shapes of pumpkins to create stunning displays for her home.

Since 2013, Torres has been creating unique porch displays for clients, with prices ranging from $325 to $1,350. She sources her pumpkins from local farmers all over Texas, supporting small businesses in the process. Her designs feature a variety of specialty pumpkins in different colors, such as pink porcelain doll pumpkins, gray jaradelle pumpkins, red Cinderella pumpkins, and white Cinderella pumpkins. She carefully considers the placement of the pumpkins to create visually appealing designs that bring joy to her clients.

In 2020, Torres’s company, Porch Pumpkins, decorated 250 homes in the area, earning her $100,000 for her side-hustle hobby. This year, she has already decorated over 1,000 homes, transforming front entrances with festive fall decorations in just a few minutes. Once the fall season ends, Porch Pumpkins returns to the homes to take down the displays. Torres finds joy in the holiday season, particularly in pumpkin season, as it marks the beginning of festivities that make people happy and bring joy to their homes.

Torres’s unique approach to porch decorating has made her a sought-after designer in the Dallas area. With a keen eye for design and a commitment to supporting local farmers, she has built a successful business that allows her to share her love for the holidays with others. Despite the challenges of running a side business while also being a stay-at-home mom, Torres finds fulfillment in creating beautiful displays that bring happiness to her clients and their families.

Through Porch Pumpkins, Torres has found a way to turn her hobby into a profitable venture that allows her to flex her creative muscles and spread joy to others. By carefully selecting the best pumpkins and designing unique displays, she has become a go-to decorator for fall festivities in the Dallas area. With a growing client base and a passion for the holidays, Torres’s business continues to thrive, bringing beauty and happiness to homes throughout the fall season.
