53-year-old Hasan Kayan, who has been living in Mamak district, applied to the court when his tenant Şükrü K. did not pay the rent for 2 years.

The court decided to evict Şükrü K. from the house, as he had only paid the rent twice in the last 1.5 years.

As a result, the landlord asked the tenant to vacate the house. Instead, Şükrü K. set fire to the house along with the belongings and fled.

The fire was extinguished with the intervention of the fire department. However, the house became uninhabitable. The police have started working to apprehend Şükrü K.

Hasan Kayan’s son, Ahmet Kayan, stated that when they asked for the rent, they received the response “I can’t make ends meet”, saying, “The rent was not high, it was 1500 lira. Before the fire, he personally called my father and threatened, ‘If you take legal action, I will burn the house, I will cause harm.’ And he did what he said he would do.”

Neighbor Edip Bayram also said, “I saw him 4 days ago. He said he would burn the house. He said, ‘If something happens, I will burn and go.’ I told him to talk and make a deal with the landlord, but he said he wouldn’t talk. He wasn’t working in any job. He was living with his mother. She had also left. Hopefully, he will be caught soon.”
