Sushi hotspots in New York City are expanding to unique locations such as train stations, hotel suites, and hidden public spaces. A new addition by Emil Stefkov’s The Group Hospitality, Omakase Room by Shin, is located in the 6½ Avenue passageway, inspired by Parisian-style covered passages. Actress Blake Lively has also curated a tasting menu at Daniel Boulud’s Jōji Box beneath Grand Central Terminal, featuring fresh sushi paired with her signature cocktail.

Another unconventional sushi spot is Simple Venue at Hotel 32|32 in Nomad, offering a four-seat omakase menu for $185 per person. The experience includes 17 courses over one and a half hours, with a hidden bar on the balcony. Richie Romero, a partner at Simple Venue, describes their omakase spots as hidden gems with unique vibes, likening them to a Quentin Tarantino film. Sushi by Bou also offers a more affordable option at outposts like the former room at the Sanctuary Hotel, providing 12 courses for $60 in just 45 minutes.

The Omakase Room by Shin, led by Chef Shin Yamaoka, offers a 14-course menu featuring traditional sushi preparation and kaiseki elements. Priced at $175 per person, the menu includes fish flown in daily from Japan as well as locally sourced ingredients. Designed by French designer Pierre Renart, the intimate space seats only eight people, creating a transcendent dining experience. Other new sushi spots in NYC include Crave Sushi Bar, a sustainable-focused restaurant from Chef Todd Mitgang and partner Brian Owens, sourcing fish from northeast fish farms like American Unagi.

These new sushi hotspots in the Big Apple are transforming the dining experience for sushi enthusiasts by offering unique and hidden locations for enjoying high-quality Japanese cuisine. With a focus on traditional sushi preparation, fresh ingredients flown in daily, and curated tasting menus, diners are treated to an elevated culinary experience. From hidden omakase spots tucked away in unutilized spaces to more traditional sushi bars focusing on sustainability, NYC’s sushi scene continues to evolve and expand, offering a diverse range of options for sushi lovers in the city.
