The death of 17-year-old student Emmanuel Mwakadi, who collapsed after breaking up a fight at Henry Clay High School in Lexington, Kentucky, is currently under investigation. Emmanuel complained of head and neck pain after the incident and was taken to UK Chandler Hospital, where he later died. No foul play is suspected, but the circumstances surrounding his death are being looked into. The family’s attorney, Justin Peterson, has expressed concern over the lack of communication from the school regarding the incident.

According to Peterson, Emmanuel broke up the fight between first and second period and complained of an injury to his head and neck. He then collapsed and fell unconscious in the classroom, prompting emergency medical personnel to be summoned. Lexington Fire Major Derek Roberts stated that the fire department responded to a call of a seizure at the school. The investigation will focus on whether there was a delay in treatment, the sufficiency of the treatment provided, and if these factors contributed to his death.

Peterson plans to reach out to Lexington Police and officials from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services and Fayette County Public Schools to further investigate the circumstances surrounding Emmanuel’s death. He expressed concern over the lack of outreach from the school to the family and hopes to get answers about what transpired. Fayette County Public Schools district spokesperson Dia Davidson-Smith stated that the school has been in constant communication with the family since the incident and expressed condolences on behalf of the school district.

The entire Fayette County Public Schools community is grieving the loss of the student from Henry Clay High School. The school leadership, teachers, and district interpreters have been providing support to the family since Emmanuel’s medical crisis in the classroom. While the investigation into the events leading to his death continue, the focus remains on supporting the family and ensuring that all relevant parties are involved in determining the cause of the tragedy. The lack of communication from the school has raised concerns for Emmanuel’s family, who are seeking answers and support during this difficult time.
