Stellantis is recalling over 1.2 million Ram 1500 vehicles due to a software malfunction in the anti-lock brake system (ABS), as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The affected vehicles include specific 2019 and 2021-2024 Ram 1500 trucks. This issue was discovered during a routine review of customer feedback, which found that the ABS module software could inadvertently disable the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system in some vehicles.

If the ESC is disabled, it will not impact the foundation brake function, but indicators such as ABS, ESC, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Forward Collision Warning lights will illuminate upon vehicle startup to indicate that these systems are unavailable. Dealers will address this issue by updating the ABS software at no cost to the vehicle owners. Stellantis has clarified that they are not aware of any related injuries or accidents resulting from this software malfunction.

This recall follows a previous recall in June that impacted nearly 158,000 Ram 2500 pickups. In addition to the Ram 1500 recall, Stellantis is also recalling certain 2020-2024 Jeep Gladiator and 2018-2024 Jeep Wrangler vehicles due to an instrument panel cluster that may experience an internal short circuit and fail. It is important for affected vehicle owners to contact their dealerships to schedule the necessary software updates or repairs to ensure the safety and functionality of their vehicles.

Stellantis is taking proactive measures to address these safety concerns and ensure the reliability of their vehicles. By responding to customer feedback and conducting investigations on potential issues, the company is prioritizing the safety and well-being of their customers. The free-of-charge software updates and repairs offered to affected vehicle owners demonstrate Stellantis’ commitment to rectifying any potential safety hazards promptly and efficiently.

Vehicle safety recalls are crucial in maintaining the safety and integrity of automobiles on the road. Identifying and addressing software malfunctions and component failures promptly can prevent accidents and injuries, potentially saving lives. Stellantis’ cooperation with the NHTSA in issuing recalls for the Ram 1500, Jeep Gladiator, and Jeep Wrangler models exemplifies their dedication to ensuring the safety of drivers, passengers, and pedestrians by addressing potential safety risks promptly and effectively.

It is essential for vehicle owners to stay informed about recalls and safety issues affecting their vehicles to prevent accidents and ensure optimal performance. By promptly addressing recall notices and scheduling necessary repairs or software updates, owners can maintain the safety and reliability of their vehicles. Stellantis’ commitment to addressing these safety concerns through recalls and repairs highlights the importance of proactive maintenance and attention to potential safety hazards in the automotive industry.
