A commission coordinated by the Governorship in the city of Samsun, Turkey, has been working to return items and documents found inside steel safes to their rightful owners or heirs, according to a statement from the Provincial Security Directorate. Out of the 197 safes being stored by the Police Directorate, it was reported that 119 of them were empty, 57 contained worthless documents and items, and 21 safes held various valuables such as gold, silver, cash, and historical coins.
The statement mentioned that among the items found in the safes were 5 kilograms and 90 grams of gold, 21 gold coins, a gold necklace, 3 gold-plated watches, 2 silver bracelets, 4 pairs of silver earrings, 458,198 Turkish Liras, $58,700 dollars, 404 euros, as well as some old coins. Additionally, 3 guns with 397 bullets, 38 historical artifacts, 960 prescription pills, and 18 safes containing historical artifacts were also discovered. The artifacts were transferred to the Museum Directorate for further examination and preservation.
