Sony’s recent decision to require Helldivers 2 players on PC to link their PSN accounts to Steam received backlash from gamers, leading to a loss of goodwill. The negative reviews focused on the PSN requirement rather than the gameplay or performance of the game. Ghost Of Tsushima, a popular PlayStation 4 game, launched on Steam with a similar PSN requirement for multiplayer co-op, leading to more negative reviews due to Sony’s previous controversy.

The timing of Ghost Of Tsushima’s Steam release coincided with Ubisoft’s announcement of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the first game in the franchise to explore feudal Japan. Both games faced controversies, overshadowing their launches. The lack of official reviews for Ghost Of Tsushima on gaming websites and YouTube raised concerns, but the game’s reviews on Steam improved to overwhelmingly positive as players praised its quality and gameplay.

Updates on 5/17 revealed that Ghost Of Tsushima’s Steam reviews improved significantly, with the game receiving a “Very Positive” rating. However, negative user reviews still focused on the PSN requirement rather than the game’s performance. Players reported issues such as crashes, freezing, and blocked access in countries without PSN. Despite these challenges, the game continued to receive love from the PC gaming community.

An update on 5/19 provided a fix for performance-related issues in Ghost Of Tsushima on PC, suggesting disabling the PlayStation Overlay to boost framerate. Players could delete or rename the PSPC_SDK folder in the game’s directory to improve performance significantly. Despite reports of crashes and other problems, the port by Nixxes was considered excellent overall, with many players enjoying the game on PC.

The game’s success was evident as it achieved over 72,000 concurrent players on Steam, nearing the record set by God Of War as the most-played PlayStation PC port. While issues with performance and the PSN requirement persisted, Ghost Of Tsushima continued to receive positive feedback from players on Steam. The game’s quality and gameplay were highlighted as reasons for its success, despite challenges faced during the launch.
