This past weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live featured a hilarious Beavis and Butthead sketch that had the cast struggling to keep a straight face. Host Ryan Gosling dressed up as Beavis while Mikey Day played Butt-Head, adding to the comedic effect of the sketch. The two characters show up as audience members during a fake NewsNation town hall with host Bobbi Moore, played by Heidi Gardner. The town hall guest is professor Norman Henning, played by Kenan Thompson, and the topic of discussion is A.I.: Miracle Or Menace?

As the interview begins, Professor Henning can’t help but interrupt when he notices Gosling dressed as Beavis in the audience. Gardner, playing the host, responds in character, not acknowledging the resemblance to Beavis but offering to have him move seats. When she turns to see Gosling in full costume, she breaks character and laughs at the ridiculous outfit. The humor escalates when Butt-Head, played by Day, takes Gosling’s seat, causing Gardner to completely crack and ask him to move as well.

While the skit itself may not be particularly funny, Gardner’s reaction to the absurd situation steals the show. Her genuine laughter is contagious and even has an effect on the rest of the cast, who struggle to keep their composure. Despite Gardner breaking character, the extras in the fake town hall manage to maintain their seriousness throughout the sketch, adding to the overall hilarity of the situation.
