Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, daughter of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has decided to change her name by filing legal paperwork on her 18th birthday to drop “Pitt” and go by Shiloh Jolie instead. While NBC News has not reviewed the petition, sources say Shiloh hired and paid for her own lawyer for this matter. Representatives for Pitt and Jolie have not commented on the name change. This isn’t the first time one of the couple’s children has dropped the Pitt surname, as Zahara Marley Jolie did so in 2022.

The decision to change her name comes amidst the ongoing divorce battle between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The couple, who share six children together, split in 2016 after Jolie accused Pitt of choking one of their children during a tumultuous flight. Jolie filed for divorce following the alleged incident, and NBC News obtained the FBI report on the incident in 2022 through a lawsuit. Subsequently, Pitt was investigated by the Los Angeles County Department of Child and Family Services, but he was cleared of any wrongdoing and no charges were brought against him.

Since the divorce in 2016, Pitt and Jolie have been embroiled in a legal battle over their winery, Château Miraval, located in the south of France. Pitt filed a lawsuit against Jolie, alleging that she improperly sold her half of the winery to Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler. Château Miraval was where the couple exchanged vows in 2014. Despite the ongoing divorce proceedings, in 2019, Pitt and Jolie were granted a “bifurcated judgment”, allowing them to be legally single while their divorce is still pending.

Throughout the challenges of their divorce and legal battles, their children have been at the center of the couple’s focus. Shiloh Jolie-Pitt’s decision to drop her father’s surname sheds light on the personal implications of the family’s high-profile disputes. The couple has been praised for co-parenting their children despite their differences, with both Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie maintaining active roles in their children’s lives. Shiloh and her siblings have grown up in the public eye, drawing attention to their unique experiences as the children of two Hollywood superstars.
