This summer, Mavericks in Montauk is taking over the space that used to be Cyril’s Fish House, aiming to fill the void since the legendary spot closed in May 2016. Vanessa Price, the owner of Mavericks, alongside her investors, bought the space at 2167 Montauk Highway and plans to open Shark Bar in place of Cyril’s. This new establishment aims to re-create the original vibe of a casual, fun, daytime, outdoor beach town seafood shack.

The name Shark Bar was chosen as a nod to the gray ocean predator featured at Mavericks, even though it is a separate concept from Cyril’s Fish House. Shark Bar aims to keep the same energy as its predecessor, with most of the seating planned to be outside. The kitchen will be run by Jeremy Blutstein, who promises beach staples like hot dogs, burgers, fish sandwiches, and Cajun french fries. The dining experience is expected to have a contemporary reimagining of the classic beach town seafood shack.

Price and her team are mindful of ingredients and flavors, ensuring that the food and drinks will be of high quality. The menu at Shark Bar will offer value-oriented pricing, in contrast to the luxury dining experience at Mavericks. Beverages, including frozen drinks, a curated wine selection, and an extensive list of rosé options, will be handled by Jarhn Blutstein of East End Mixology. The Bahama Mama drink, BBC, will be featured on the menu with a new interpretation.

The new owners of Shark Bar have acknowledged the desire of Cyril Fitzsimons’ family to bring their father’s legacy back to life after his passing in 2020. The family still manages the Cyril’s Fish House Facebook page and teases various business ventures. While respecting the legacy of Cyril’s, the team behind Shark Bar is focused on bringing the space back to life in a fresh way. They aim to offer excellent food and beverages in the same relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere that Cyril’s was known for.

Shark Bar plans to open in May under a wild timeline since the purchase was only completed in December. The goal of the new establishment is to become a popular spot for locals and visitors alike, much like Cyril’s was in its heyday. The team at Shark Bar hopes patrons will come with an open mind and appreciate the efforts to revive a space that had been inactive for some time. While recognizing the significance of Cyril’s in the community, the new owners are eager to create a unique and exciting place for people to enjoy.

Overall, Shark Bar intends to revive the spirit of Cyril’s Fish House by offering a modern yet nostalgic beach town dining experience. With a focus on delicious food, quality beverages, and a relaxed atmosphere, the new establishment aims to become a beloved spot in Amagansett once again. Through innovative culinary offerings, a welcoming ambiance, and a nod to the past, Shark Bar hopes to honor the legacy of Cyril’s while creating a new and exciting destination for locals and tourists to enjoy.
