Disturbing footage from a surveillance video captured the moment a 22-year-old security guard trainee named Ali Hamsa Yusuf attempted to shoot his supervisor in the back of the head at an Amazon warehouse in West Jefferson, Ohio. The incident occurred on May 12 around 4:40 p.m. as Yusuf waved a pistol around inside the facility where over 100 employees were working. The video showed him entering the warehouse using his keycard and approaching his supervisor who was sitting at his desk. Yusuf then pointed the gun at his supervisor from a close distance and attempted to fire two shots, both of which missed.

Yusuf’s gun jammed as he tried to shoot his supervisor, giving the supervisor time to escape unharmed. The contracted security guard at the facility reported the incident to 911 dispatchers. When police officers arrived at the warehouse, Yusuf had already fled the scene. He was later located in his white Toyota Camry in Columbus, 20 miles away from the Amazon warehouse. Dash cam footage showed police surrounding Yusuf’s vehicle, where a firefight ensued resulting in Yusuf being fatally shot after he opened fire on the officers.

The Columbus police officer who fired the fatal shot at Yusuf sustained only minor injuries thanks to his bulletproof vest. The officer was treated at Grant Hospital and released on the same day. It was revealed that Yusuf had been receiving training from the security guard at the warehouse for about two weeks before the incident occurred. The reasons behind Yusuf’s attempted attack on his supervisor remain unclear as he had no known criminal record and was not authorized to carry a gun while on duty at the warehouse.

The incident at the Amazon warehouse in Ohio shocked employees and authorities, with the police chief acknowledging that it was fortunate the supervisor was able to escape unhurt despite the close-range shooting attempt. Details from the surveillance video and witness reports provided a harrowing account of the events that unfolded that day. The swift response by law enforcement officers in apprehending Yusuf after he fled the warehouse possibly prevented further violence.

The use of a firearm in the workplace raised concerns about security and safety protocols at the Amazon warehouse and other similar facilities. The aftermath of the shooting resulted in an investigation into how Yusuf was able to bring a gun into the workplace and what measures could be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future. The incident also highlighted the importance of proper training and screening of security personnel to identify any potential risks or threats they may pose to others. Overall, the shooting at the Amazon warehouse serves as a somber reminder of the dangers that can arise in unexpected situations and the need for vigilance in maintaining a secure work environment.
