A massive search operation is currently underway in the rural Tavşantepe neighborhood of Diyarbakır, Turkey, after Narin Güran was reported missing by her family on August 21st at around 3:00 pm. The family alerted authorities, prompting the deployment of several search and rescue teams including 112 Emergency Health, Gendarmerie Search and Rescue (JAK), Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), and Dicle University Search and Rescue (DÜAK).

The search efforts have involved divers from AFAD conducting operations in irrigation channels to locate Narin. The teams led by the Gendarmerie and AFAD have scoured the neighborhood’s surroundings, including rocky areas, streams, and marshes, as well as abandoned spaces such as barns, haystacks, and vacant houses. Vehicles entering and leaving the area have been monitored by the Gendarmerie.

Additionally, Gendarmerie Underwater Search and Rescue divers have searched water wells in the neighborhood, marking these locations with spray paint for reference. So far, around 16 kilometers of the neighborhood’s vicinity have been covered in the search operation. Further investigation has led the teams to initiate search efforts at the Eğertutmaz Stream, approximately 2 kilometers away from the neighborhood, in response to a tip received.

Heavy machinery has been utilized to clear debris from the stream, widening the canal to facilitate better water flow. As daylight waned, the search along the riverbank was halted, with intentions to resume the operation the following day with the aid of machinery and divers. It has been reported that approximately 130 individuals have been interviewed in the quest to locate the missing girl, showing the extent of the community’s involvement and concern.

Bağlar District Governor Ismail Pendik paid a visit to the Güran family to inspect ongoing operations, accompanied by representatives from political parties such as HÜDA PAR and AK Party. Turkish Red Crescent provided meals and beverages to the search teams. Despite the challenging circumstances, Narin’s father, Arif Güran, remains hopeful for his daughter’s safe return, urging anyone with information to reach out to authorities.

Expressing his fervent desire to embrace his daughter once again, Güran expressed gratitude for the state’s assistance and discredited any false information circulating on social media platforms. Emphasizing the nation’s resilience in times of hardship, he highlighted miraculous rescues during earthquakes as a source of hope, daring to believe that Narin will also be found safely. The search operation continues with an unwavering commitment to bring Narin back to her family.
