Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested in Manhattan on May 15, 2022, following raids on his homes by Homeland Security in late March that were prompted by a series of sexual abuse lawsuits against him. One of the lawsuits was filed by his former girlfriend, R&B singer Cassie Ventura, accusing him of sex trafficking and abuse. Since then, eight more women and one man have come forward with allegations ranging from sex trafficking to sexual assault. The investigation is being led by the Southern District of New York, with a grand jury hearing evidence related to the case.

Federal agents executed a search warrant on Combs’ properties in Los Angeles and Miami, seizing his phones after confronting him at Miami-Opa Locka airport. Combs’ attorney called the raids an overuse of force and a witch hunt based on accusations made in civil lawsuits. Combs’ attorney emphasized his client’s status as a music icon, entrepreneur, family man, and philanthropist with a positive impact on the Black community. Despite the charges, Combs has been cooperative with the investigation and voluntarily relocated to New York in anticipation of the legal proceedings.

Rolling Stone published an investigation into Combs, uncovering allegations of violence against women, physical aggression, and sexual harassment. Multiple sources described Combs as a serial predator who used his fame and status to hide abusive behavior. The investigation began with Ventura’s lawsuit, in which she detailed physical assaults and sexual exploitation during their relationship. Security footage confirmed a 2016 incident where Combs assaulted Ventura in a hotel. Following Ventura’s lawsuit, more accusers came forward with similar claims of abuse and assault by Combs, dating back to the early 1990s.

Combs denied the allegations and claimed they were fabricated for financial gain. Despite his denials, he faced a growing number of lawsuits from individuals alleging abuse, assault, and sex trafficking. The mounting legal challenges led Combs to step down from his roles in various companies and sell his stake in others. Companies began distancing themselves from Combs, with Diageo cutting ties with him in a private settlement. As the investigations continued, more individuals came forward with allegations against Combs, including singer Dawn Richard, who accused him of physical abuse and harassment. Combs maintained his innocence in each case.

The investigation into Combs and the allegations against him shed light on a troubling pattern of behavior that spanned decades. The support for his music career and business ventures wavered as more people spoke out against him and legal actions escalated. Despite the public accusations and legal challenges, Combs continued to deny any wrongdoing and expressed his determination to clear his name in court. The aftermath of the investigations has had a significant impact on Combs’ personal and professional life, leading to his separation from various companies and business ventures. The legal proceedings against Combs continue as more individuals come forward with allegations of abuse and misconduct.
